May was all about Play. I had spent the last few months a-hustlin’ and a-grindin’: Creating my art & illustration portfolio, setting up my portfolio website, uploading patterns, setting up my Spoonflower shop, adding new products to my online shop, applying for a bunch of opportunities/grants/residencies/competitions - to name a few.

I’ve been a busy bee. Now it was time to be a playful partridge (is that a thing? Oh well, it is now!)

I’m a strong believer in the cyclical/seasonal nature of life. Life ebbs and flows. I’m learning to ride the waves when they come and use the opportunity to take my foot off the gas when they go - secure in the knowledge that ‘this too shall pass’.

May was also a month of rejection. Email after email after email of ‘no thank you’ - sometimes twice on the same day 😭

I’ve developed a fairly healthy approach to rejection over the years - but it still stings. I needed to give my self time and space to process and reflect, with a hefty dose of joy and delight thrown in. It wasn’t all bad though - a lot of lovely things happened as well.
